**MathMate**, Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 9:01amP(x)=2x^3+px^2-x+6 = (x-2)Q(x)=0

Since (x-2) is a factor of P(x), evalulate P(2) and equate the result to zero:

2(2)^3+p(2)^2-(2)+6 = 0

16+4p-2+6=0

4p=-20

p=-5
