How does the way a society treats and regards its women affect the way outsiders perceive that society?

How do you think cinema - and other forms of pop culture and mass media - affect that perception?

Some outsiders will praise a society for the way it treats women. Others will condemn it. People in the West tend to condemn Saudi Arabia for its treatment of women. Other people in Southwest Asia praise Saudi Arabia.

Yes, obviously mass media affects this perception.
