prepostional phrase
but consumers, but prepostion &consumer object?
in sewing machines, in preposition and machines is the object?
would that be correct??

But consumers is not a prepositional phrase. In this example, "but" is used as a conjunction. Consumers is the subject of the sentence.

The other one is correct.
