Posted by Brianna on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 12:23pm.

1. Kevin ran 4 miles more than Steve ran. The sum of their distances is 26 miles. How far did Steve run? The domain of the solution is {0, 4, 11, 22}.
b. Write algebraic expressions for the distances each person ran.
2. Solve the equation. Explain how the order of operations determines how you evaluate an algebraic expression. Be sure to explain the rules for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the use of grouping symbols. Use examples to illustrate your points.

Let Steve's distance be x
Let Kevin's distance be x+4

x + x+4 = 26
2x = 22
x = 11

Steve ran 11 miles
Kevin ran 15 miles

• Math - Steve, Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 1:08pm

k = kevin's distance
s = steve's distance
k = s+4
k+s = 26
s+4+s = 26

As you solve that, write down the steps you used.
