7 PERIODS
The main body of the periodic table consists of seven periods. To determine the number of periods, you can either count the horizontal rows or look at the highest energy level (or principal quantum number) for the elements in each row. Each period represents a different energy level, starting with the first period at the bottom and progressing upward to the seventh period at the top.
