Homework Help: math,word problem(algebra)

The length of a piece of cloth is 8y m.Mr Lim cut 7 m from it to sew some cushion covers.Then,he cut 3y m to sew a curtain.The remaining material was cut into 4 equal pieces.How long was each piece in terms of y? please help me to complete this&thanks for advance

length left after all the cut offs
= 8y - 7 - 3
= 8y-10

cut into 4 pieces would be (8y-10)/4 m each
or (4y-5)/2 after reducing it to lowest terms

they might have written the answer also as
2y - 5/2 or 2y - 2.5
