I need help on paraphrasing "No man is an Island"

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as a manor of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

When John Kennedy died, I felt as if I had died.

How does that fit with the above?

When my wife died three years ago, I lost a part of my life that I still long for, but it is gone from me.

How does that fit with the above?

When my son in 1968 died during childbirth, a part of my wife died with it. She was never the same.

How does that fit with the above.

The bell may have tolled for my wife, and baby, but it also took a piece of me.
