**Reiny**, Friday, September 9, 2011 at 8:15pmI have a feeling that your second term in the numerator is supposed to be -5x^2

If so, I performed a synthetic division to get

(3x^3-5x^2+6x-9)/(x+5) = 3x^2 - 20x + 106 - 539/(x+5)

Long Algebraic Division will yield the same result
