What is a good topic for an autobiographical narrative?

I know autobiography means about you but what are good topics that reveals something important about yourself but there should be conflict at the center of this?

I was going to write about a friend who passed away and we had fought before he died, but my teacher said it shouldnt be sentimental? Does that idea seem sentimental?

The idea could be sentimental. The important thing to stress is what you learned about yourself from this experience. Did his death change you? How?
