FIND EACH ESTIMATE:

1) A RARE TRUFFLE ONCE SOLD FO $13.20 FOR A 0.44 OZ CAN. APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH WOULD 1LB OF THIS TRUFFLE COST?
2) THE LENGTH OF THE LONGEST LOAF OF BREAD MEASURED 1,405 FT 1 3/4 IN. IT WAS CUT INTO SLICES 1/2 IN. THICK. HOW MANY SLICES WERE THERE?

Ms: Sue need to find th estimate:

a rare truffle once sold for $13.20 for 0.44 oz can approximately how much would 1 lb of this truffle cost?
would it be estimate;
13.00 x 0.40 = 32.5 x 16 = 5.20?

1)

13.20/0.44 = x/1

Cross multiply and solve for x.

2)

[(1405 * 12) + 1 3/4] / 1/2 = ?

I don't understand your estimation. Shouldn't 1 pound cost about four times what about 1/4 pound cost?

i thought i would estimate: 13.20 to 13 and .44 oz to .40 1300 divide by 40 is 32.5 per oz so 16oz equal to 1lb 32.5 x 16 : $5.20

I made a mistake above.

0.44 of an ounce is about 1/2 an ounce. One pound = 16 ounces. So you'd multiply 13 by 30. That gives a cost per pound of around $400.

13 * 30 = $390.

i am really confused is this how it should be for the actual cost

$13.20 divide 0.44 oz =
30 x 16 = $480 for 1 lb

for the estimate:
$13 divide by 0.40oz =
32.5 x 16 = $520
pls advise

this is really confusing

To find each estimate, we will use the given information and some simple calculations.

1) A RARE TRUFFLE ONCE SOLD FO $13.20 FOR A 0.44 OZ CAN. APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH WOULD 1LB OF THIS TRUFFLE COST?

To find the cost of 1 lb of the truffle, we need to convert the weight of the can (0.44 oz) to pounds and then scale it up to 1 lb.

Step 1: Convert 0.44 oz to pounds:
Since 1 lb is equal to 16 oz, divide 0.44 oz by 16:
0.44 oz / 16 oz = 0.0275 lb

Step 2: Scale up the cost:
Since the can of truffle costs $13.20, divide the cost by the weight of the can (0.44 oz) and multiply it by the weight of 1 lb (16 oz):
($13.20 / 0.44 oz) * 16 oz = $480

Therefore, 1 lb of this truffle would cost approximately $480.

2) THE LENGTH OF THE LONGEST LOAF OF BREAD MEASURED 1,405 FT 1 3/4 IN. IT WAS CUT INTO SLICES 1/2 IN. THICK. HOW MANY SLICES WERE THERE?

To find the number of slices, we need to subtract the thickness of each slice (1/2 in) from the total length of the bread loaf.

Step 1: Convert the length to inches:
Since 1 ft is equal to 12 inches, we can convert 1,405 ft to inches:
1,405 ft * 12 in/ft = 16,860 inches

Step 2: Add the fraction to the total:
The fraction 1 3/4 can be converted to an improper fraction:
1 3/4 = (4 * 1 + 3) / 4 = 7/4

Add the fraction to the total length in inches:
16,860 inches + 7/4 inches = 16,860 inches + 1.75 inches = 16,861.75 inches

Step 3: Divide the total length by the thickness of each slice:
Divide 16,861.75 inches by 1/2 inch:
16,861.75 inches / (1/2 inch) = 33,723.5

Therefore, there would be approximately 33,723.5 slices of bread.
