I suppose x is supposed to represent the number of pieces of ribbon.
Total length = 9yards*36inches/yard=144 inches.
Length of each piece = 9 inches/piece
Number of pieces
=144 inches / (9 inches/piece)
= 16 pieces
36*4= 144
144/9=16
X= 16 peices
