When you add and subtract fractions, you must use the same common denominator.

Since 21 is evenly divided by both 7 and 3, 21 is the common denominator.

19 6/7 = 19 18/21

12 2/3 = 12 14/21

19 18/21 + 12 14/21 = 31 32/21 = 32 11/21
