Adjectives modify nouns and pronouns. They tell WHICH, WHAT KIND OF, HOW MANY.
Examples:
The TALL man reached across the WIDE table.
Tall modifies man. It tells what kind of man.
Wide modifies table. It tells which table.
Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. They tell WHEN, WHERE, WHY, TO WHAT EXTENT.
Example:
Debbie USUALLY works VERY hard.
Usually modifies the verb works. It tells when she works.
Very modifies the adjective hard. It tells to what extent.
