Homework Help: math

Posted by Jay on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 4:59pm.

how do I solve this following problem step by step.

8/x = 10

• math - Ms. Sue, Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 5:01pm

Multiply both sides of the equation by x.

8 = 10x
8/10 = x
0.8 = x

what would it be if i had

8x = 10

• math - Ms. Sue, Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 5:09pm

Divide both sides of the equation by 8.

8x = 10

x = 10/8
x = 1 1/4 = 1.25

This may be easier to understand if you plug the values for x into the original equation.

8 * 1.25 = 10

You would divide both sides by eight to
isolate x. I will let you do that.
It ends up being a fraction, of course.

Let me know if you can't figure that out.
