Can we say in passive: The bad news were or was given? The same with cast has been chosen or have been chosen?
Can you put this sentence in passive
Her mother is teaching her French
Active: Her mother is teaching her French.
Passive: She is being taught French by her mother.
You can say, "The bad news was given to the family by the policeman."
Also, "The cast has been chosen by the casting director."
(Both are considered singular in these cases.)
