During and after the Revolution, why did the emancipation of slaves proceed very slowly in the northern states?
Slavery was accepted. Although there were some people who argued that slavery was immoral, the majority of people believed that slavery was necessary; the financial interests of the slave owners took precedence over whatever moral questions were raised.
