hmm, i'm not sure with that "reduce to 5/8". i interpreted it in two ways:
A.) 5/8 as a number:
let n = number
thus,
n - 33 = 5/8
n = 33 5/8
B.) 5/8 of the original
n - 33 = (5/8)n
n - (5/8)n = 33
(3/8)n = 33
n = 33*8/3
n = 88
