Take seven straws, cut them into four pieces each, and put them in a jar. Have the kid sort them into four even piles, and see how many "complete" straws they can make. This fraction concept most teachers would not teach 2nd graders.
You have 7 peices of bread. You take all of them and cut them in half. Then, you take the bread agian to make more halves which makes quarters of the bread
