Identify the simple subject and simple predicate in each sentence.
1. The neurologice exam tested her Babinski reflex.
simple subject: exam
simple predicate: tested
2. There are children waiting in the lobby.
simple subject: children
simple predicate: waiting
1 is fine.
2 is almost fine! Include "was" with "waiting" -- it's the auxiliary verb that makes the participle a whole verb.
Ust posted this question - caught it before I submit exam -
should I use the answer for simple predicate: are waiting
because in the sentence *are* is used instead of *was*?
