I'm stuck between C and D.

2. Choose the sentence that had correct subject-verb agreement.

A. The waiters, as well as the hostess, receives good tips.
B. the classes have all agreed to collect their essays into a single volume.
C. In his comedy routines, David frequently employs hyperbole, one of the figures of speech that is in common use today.
D. This is one of those video games that is easy to learn.

You're right to eliminate A and B. Now ... identify the subjects in C and in D. Then identify the main verb. What do you notice. (Be aware that the subjects come BEFORE the verbs in both of these sentences.)

Be aware that subject-verb agreement occurs in all clauses, not just the main clause.

I think #1 is D because "were" is for multiple entities, which are mountains in this case.

I think #2 is C.

No, sorry. The subject in D is "sight" not "mountains."

And the correct answer for #2 is B.

[Would you say, "those video games is easy to learn"? Or "the figures of speech is in common use today"?]

Those last two are tricky, I think. Our inclination is to let "one" be the subject in each case, but "that" is physically closer to the word it's referring to (games, figures), and those antecedents determine whether "that" is singular or plural.
