I urgently need you to check these sentences on a trip description. I hope you can help me. Thank you. (I icluded some corrections in parentheses)

1) Our plane took off from Milan and stopped a day in Hong Kong.
2) We had the possibility to visit quickly the city. All of us found Hong Kong very boring because it's (was) caotic and the only thing you can (could) do is (was) shopping.
3) A friend of my family was waiting for us at the airport of Cairns, because we were invited to his birthday party in Pourt Douglas, a small town on the coast which is famous for having beautiful beaches.
4) The next days we stayed at our friend's house (Better: we spent the following days..)
5) It was great because he is (was?) very hospitable and he gaves us a lot of touristic information and one of his cars.
6) The next part of the trip becomes better (the rest of our journey was better?) than the first because we visited more natural places (???) as the rain forest and the great coral reef. That's the reason why I was very sad when we left Cairns and we flew back.
