What were the economic and social differences between the North and the South around the 1830s?
What types of classes lived there, and what kinds of labor and stuff did they do?

Both sections were largely rural. The South had some large plantations; their major export crop was cotton. Farms in the North tended to be much smaller and grew mostly food crops and exported very little of them.

The North's cities were much more industrialized.
