**MathMate**, Friday, April 29, 2011 at 1:20pmArithmetic sequence:

the*difference*between consecutive terms is constant.

Example:

1,3,5,7,9

difference:

2,2,2,2

Geometric sequence:

the*ratio*between consecutive terms is constant.

Example:

1,3,9,27,81,243

ratio:

3,3,3,3,3

For the given example,

0,1,4,9,16,25,36...

Difference:

1,3,5,7,9,11...

ratio

*,4, 9/4, 16/9, 25/16, 36/25 ...

So is the sequence arithmetic, geometric, or neither?
