It is always a good practice to define the variables, in this case:
son's age = x
Jerry's age = 6+3x
Together
x + (6+3x) = 46
...
so x + 6+3x =46
4x + 6-6 = 46 - 6
4x/4 = 40/4
x = 10 ???? it should be 36 what am I missing?
son's age = x
Jerry's age = 6+3x
"...how old is jerry. "
4x divided by 4 = x
40 divided by 4 =10
if x = 10
then
6+3x = 6+30
got it, thanks
