I have to do a writing prompt on Superlatives. And here's the instructions.

Imagine that you are one of the animals in the Zoo in Paris. Give your name, age, and tell where you live. Describe some of your favourite animal friends at the Zoo - Saying who's the tallest, most famous, and nicest. Then compare your best animal friend with yourself, telling which of you is stranger and more dynamic.

This whole writing prompt focuses on the *SUPERLATIVES*. But Im sort of getting confused, because you're comparing yourself to all. So wouldnt you also be using moins, plus, que? I don't think Im supposed to use Moins. I think Im only supposed to use Plus.

This is what I did, although Im not sure, if this is what Im supposed to do.

Je m'appelle Lisa le lion. Je suis 15 ans et j'habite dans aux zoo. Mes animaux favorites sont Emma l'elephant, Tammy le tigre, et Sally le Singe. Emma l'elephant est le plus grande que Tammy le tigre. Sally le singe est le plus gentille que Emma l'elephant. Tammy le tigre est le plus celebre que Sally le singe. Elle est plus dynamique que moi, et je suis le plus etrange que Sally le singe.

With age, it is "avoir"

J'ai 15 anset j'habite le zoo.
l'éléphant (accents)
grand = masculine
gentil = masculine
Sally le singe est plus gentil qu'Emma (comparative only) BUT Sally le singe est le p lus gentil des animaux (superlative)
You must change "le plus célèbre" from comparative to superlative as well.
Elle est plus dynamique = comparative, not superlative
le plus étrange des animaux = superlative

What is a superlative?
The superlative is expressed by placing the proper form of the definite article before the comparative. The superlative adjectives (like the comprative adjectives) agree with the noun modified in gender (masculine or femin ine) and number (signular or plural). The position of these adjectives, before or after the noun, is generally the same as in the positive
Positive: une longue côte / les lacs profonds
Comparative: une plus longue côte / les lacs plus profonds
Superlative: la plus longue côte / les lacs les plus profonds
After a superlative, "in" is expressed by "de" = elle est le plus dynamique des animaux (for example)

Please ask questions where this is not clear to you.

(Superlative can include "le plus" = the most and "le moins" = the least

Sra (aka Mme)

How come we would say *le* zoo instead of *au* zoo?

Je m'appelle Lisa le lion. J'ai 15 ans et j'habite le zoo. Mes animaux favorites sont Emma l'éléphant, Tammy le tigre, et Sally le Singe. Emma l'éléphant est le plus grand des animaux. Sally le singe est le plus gentil des animaux. Tammy le tigre est le plus célèbre des animaux. Mon mieux amie est Sally le singe. Elle est plus dynamique que moi, et je suis le plus étrange que Sally le singe.

For the last sentences, how do I use superlative? Because the instructions says:

Then compare your best animal friend with yourself, telling which of you is stranger and more dynamic.

habiter USED to use "à" for "in" but the tendency now is to just say "habiter" for "to live in" a city, etc.

Sally is female = Ma meilleure amie est Sally. "mieux" is an adverb but meilleur, etc. is the adjective.

A few adjectives have irregular comparisons & superlatives. "bon" is always compared irregularly; mauvais and petit are compared both regularly and irregularly.

bon / meilleur / le meilleur (or feminine, plural, etc. depen ding upon the noun in mind)
mauvais / plus mauvais OR pire / le plus mauvais OR le pire (etc.)
petit / plus petit OR moindre / le plus petit OR le moindre (etc. = meaning feminine, plural)

Variation: Sally le singe est l'animal le plus gentil du zoo.

Entre nous, elle est la plus dynamique (for superlative) et je suis la plus étrange.

Sra (aia Mme)

Your attempt at the writing prompt is good, but there are a few minor errors and corrections you can make to better fit the superlative structure. Here's a revised version of your response:

"Je m'appelle Lisa le lion. J'ai 15 ans et j'habite au zoo. Mes animaux préférés sont Emma l'éléphant, Tammy le tigre et Sally le singe. Emma l'éléphant est la plus grande de tous, tandis que Tammy le tigre est le plus célèbre. Sally le singe est la plus gentille. Tammy le tigre est plus dynamique que moi, tandis que je suis plus étrange que Sally le singe."

In the revised response:
- I changed "aux" to "au" because "zoo" is a masculine noun, and "au" is the correct contraction for "à + le" (to/at the).
- I modified the structure of the comparisons to use the superlative forms correctly. Instead of saying "plus grande que," it should be "la plus grande de tous" (the tallest of all). Similarly, instead of saying "plus gentille que," it should be "la plus gentille" (the nicest).
- I corrected the incorrect use of "le plus celebre que." Instead, you should write "le plus célèbre."
- Lastly, I adjusted the sentence about yourself and Sally the monkey. Instead of using "la plus étrange que," it should be "plus étrange que."

Remember, when comparing two things in French, you generally use "plus" (more) and "que" (than). But when making superlative comparisons (comparing one thing to a group), you use "le/la/les plus" (the most) and "de tous/de toutes" (of all).

Overall, your attempt was very close, and with these corrections, your writing will reflect the superlative comparisons more accurately. Good luck with your writing prompt!
