Hello!

Can we say: Are you going to apply to a job soon? or is apply for a job more correct? In which cases can we say apply to?

Good morning!

You would apply for a job.

You would apply paint to the wall (or whatever).

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22apply+for%22+idiom&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

the correct way is: Are you going to apply for a job soon or are you going to apply for any job soon.

for example in the case where you can use to: Did you apply to any university yet?

Thank you :)

You're welcome!

Hello!

When it comes to talking about job applications, both "apply to" and "apply for" are commonly used. However, their usage slightly differs depending on the context.

"Apply to" is generally used when referring to a specific employer or company you are applying to. For example, you would say, "I am going to apply to Google for a job." In this case, "to" indicates the destination or recipient of your application.

On the other hand, "apply for" is used when talking about the general act of applying for a job or a specific type of job. For instance, you would say, "I am going to apply for a job in marketing." Here, "for" indicates the purpose or the type of job you are seeking.

However, there can be situations where the usage of both "apply to" and "apply for" may be correct interchangeably. For example, you can say, "I am going to apply to/for a job at this company." In such cases, you can use either preposition based on your personal preference.

In summary, "apply to" is used to refer to a specific employer or company, while "apply for" is used more generally to describe the act of seeking employment or applying for a certain type of job.
