Rachel cannot remember how much money she had when she came to school this morning. She used half of the money for lunch and then spent half of what was left to buy paper. If she now has #1.35, how much money did Rachel begin with?

Let x = original amount.

.5x - .25x = $1.35

.25x = $1.35

Solve for x.
