A jar contains 3 red balls and 2 green balls. You draw one ball at random. Determine the probability of selecting

a. red b. green c. blue d. red or green

p.s: the reason I am asking this questions is because we never learned about it in class and I don't know how to do it; so if you don't mind, if you could just do the first one and explain how you got it, perhaps give me a formula I should be able to do the rest on my own. I didn't post this on this site to be told that I'm stupid for needing help, and I don't appreciate that.

a.) 3/5 or 3 out of 5

b.) 2/5 or 2 out of 5
c.) 0/5 or 0 out of 5
d.) 5/5 or 5 out of 5 or 100%

the first number tells how many of that color are in the bag and the second tells how many total are in the bag. that's really all their is.. it's kind of like saying "I've got a 1 out of 100 chanse of winning the lottery."

thank you for explaining, I understand it now :)

Of course, I'm here to help you understand. Probability can sometimes be confusing, but with a clear explanation, you'll be able to solve similar questions on your own.

To determine the probability of selecting a red ball, we need to know the total number of balls and the number of red balls.

In this case, there are a total of 5 balls in the jar (3 red + 2 green).

To calculate the probability, we use the formula:

Probability = Number of desired outcomes / Total number of possible outcomes

For this question, the number of desired outcomes is 3 (since there are 3 red balls), and the total number of possible outcomes is 5 (since we have 5 balls in total).

So, the probability of selecting a red ball is:
Probability (red) = 3 / 5 = 0.6 or 60%

To solve the rest of the questions, let's use the same formula:

b. To find the probability of selecting a green ball, apply the formula:
Probability (green) = Number of green balls / Total number of balls

c. To find the probability of selecting a blue ball, apply the formula:
Probability (blue) = Number of blue balls / Total number of balls

d. To find the probability of selecting a red or green ball, apply the formula:
Probability (red or green) = Number of red balls + Number of green balls / Total number of balls

Remember, the total number of balls is constant in each question.

If you provide the number of green or blue balls, I can help you calculate those probabilities too.
