-3x + 2y = 8
x + 4y = -4
x + 4y = -4
x = -4 - 4y
Substitute, x = -4 - 4y in,
-3x + 2y = 8
-3(-4 - 4y) + 2y = 8
12 + 12y + 2y = 8
14y = -4
y = -4/14
y = -2/7
Substitute, y = -2/7 in either equation to find x.
Then check your solutions in the original equations.
