3x + 2y = 8
x + 4y = 4
x + 4y = 4
x = 4  4y
Substitute, x = 4  4y in,
3x + 2y = 8
3(4  4y) + 2y = 8
12 + 12y + 2y = 8
14y = 4
y = 4/14
y = 2/7
Substitute, y = 2/7 in either equation to find x.
Then check your solutions in the original equations.
