Hi, for my english essay I have to review a movie that I have seen and kind of do an analysis on it. I have done what I can, but I somehow can't get it to be the 3 page limit, it's still not even close to 2 pages. My rough draft of it was 1 page, and I have tried to write more but I don't know what else I can add.

Here's what I have so far:

One of my favorite movies of all time is A Walk to Remember, based on the popular novel by Nicholas Sparks. Although this movie is commonly considered a love story, it is more focused on the topic of coming of age. Landon Carter, one of the leading characters, faces great inner confusion when Jamie Sullivan, the girl he loves, makes him realize how low and selfish his values, morals, and deeds really are. Jamie helps him see the world from a whole different point of view, her point of view. For the first time in his life, Landon starts to question his principles and is disappointed by what he finds.
Whenever he is around Jamie, Landon notices the many and various flaws in his personality. First of all, he realizes how unkind his behavior really is. Before he met Jamie, Landon believed that being mean was something that all teenagers were born with, and that it didn’t really hurt people. Of course there was a limit; but Landon had an imaginary line drawn for him and he was nowhere near it. When Jamie comes into his life, she makes him realize that his thoughts about life are completely untrue; mocking and gossiping isn’t mandatory because after all she is a teenager as well, and she is never unkind.
Being with Jamie also makes Landon realize that he is being more selfish than he should be. Instead of spending the money and time that he has to help others, he spends grandly for himself. Jamie, on the other hand, cheerfully lives for others without any complaints. Finally, Landon realizes that he has too much resentment cooped up inside of himself. When someone makes him angry, he screams back at them with fury, while Jamie responds with kindness to someone who has hurt her. His anger and frustration are what make him so lonely at times; they are what cause him to become distant with everyone, even the people who are closest to him like as his father.
In the end of the movie, Landon changes his behavior by his own will. Jamie shows him behavior that Landon believed didn’t even exist in people, not the people he knew at least. When he discovers these qualities, he strives to mimic them in his own life. Whatever Jamie does, and however she does it, that is the way that Landon tries to do things, and he strives to become just like her. As he says in the movie, “Jamie has faith in me. She makes me want to be different, better.” Her words to him give him hope of one day becoming a better person, if not for anyone else then for Jamie. Slowly, he loses his immature and mean attitude and turns himself into a responsible, mature, and self-sacrificing adult. Therefore, although this movie does discuss the love that Jamie and Landon share, ultimately the greater message is of how Landon comes to age at the end.

This reads like a summary of the movie's plot, which is not analysis.

Here's what to do:
Go here ~~> http://www.powa.org/ and click on Thesis/Support Essays. Read ALL the sections, which includes clicking on Read More for each section. Then start over.

First you need to understand what analysis is.
http://www.answers.com/analysis
Read and reread definitions 1a and 1b.
This phrasing -- "kind of do an analysis on it" -- is not helpful. What are your exact directions for this?

Exactly what are you to analyze in the movie? The characters? The setting? Some aspect of the plot? Until you are clear on this, you won't know what to write.

Let me know exactly what your directions say, and then I'll help you write a thesis statement, set up an outline to support that thesis, and then you can start writing. For now, though, you need to scrap what you have. It is not analysis.

:/

My teacher just said to pick a main point from the movie and talk about it and discuss it. I thought that just meant analyze it, and I thought that's what I did. i guess not though...

Write one sentence in which you state that main point and your opinion/position about that topic.

We'll see if it can be a thesis statement.

The main point of the movie A Walk to Remember is how Landon becomes mature and becomes a better person by spending time with Jamie and learning her ways.

How's that?
I don't know how I can have a position about that though..

OK, this'll be a character-change paper then. Try this for a thesis statement.

In A Walk to Remember, Landon changes into a better and more mature character because of Jamie.

Now list for me at least 5 specific and separate things that happened during the story that created this change. Make it a point to list them in order from least important (but still effective) to most important (most effective/powerful).

Hmmm...this means I have to list specific events that happened that helped make this change. I haven't seen the movie lately so I think I'm gonna watch it again real quick or skim through it and give you your five points.

Is it okay if i get back to you on a new post once I've got my list?

Sure, that's fine. Just put "character change" in the School Subject" line so I'll see it easily.

To expand your essay and reach the required page limit, you can consider adding the following points:

1. Character development: Discuss in more detail how Landon's character evolves throughout the movie. Explain specific instances where he undergoes significant changes, such as his initial resistance to Jamie's influence, moments of self-reflection, and the impact of their relationship on his overall growth.

2. Themes and symbolism: Explore the various themes present in the movie and how they contribute to the overall narrative. For example, you can discuss the theme of redemption, the significance of Jamie's presence in Landon's life, and the symbolic meaning of certain objects or events within the story.

3. Supporting characters: Dedicate a section to analyzing the roles of other characters in the movie. How do they contribute to Landon's journey of self-discovery? What lessons does Landon learn from their interactions? Analyzing the supporting characters can further enhance your analysis of Landon's coming of age.

4. Cinematic techniques: Discuss the filmmaking techniques used to convey the story and enhance the audience's emotional engagement. Analyze aspects such as cinematography, soundtrack, and editing to demonstrate how they contribute to the overall impact of the movie and its themes.

5. Societal context: Consider exploring the broader societal context in which the story takes place. Discuss how the movie reflects certain social issues or cultural norms of the time, and how Landon's growth aligns with these larger societal changes or challenges.

By incorporating these additional points into your essay, you should be able to reach the required page limit while providing a more comprehensive analysis of the movie "A Walk to Remember."
