can someone please explain to me how the solution to 240 000 would be written as 240 000 is expressed as 2.4* 105 in scientific notation? i get the decimal part but am lost after that.

Easy. 240 000 is 24x10,000 or 24 E4.

but 24 is 2.4E1, so finally, 240 000 is 2.4E5
