Train A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 80 miles per hr and train B is traveling at 88 miles per hour. Train A passes a station at 8:10 AM. If train B passes the same station at 8:40 AM, what time will train B catch up to train A? Answer: ____:____ am or pm

    88 = Rate of Train B
    T = Time of Train B
    88T = Distance of Train B

    80 = Rate of Train A
    T + .5 = Time of Train A (8:40 - 8:10 = 30 min = .5 h)
    80(T + .5) = Distance of Train A

    Since distances are equal
    80(T + .5) = 88T
    80T + 40 = 88T
    8T = 40
    T = 5

    Train B will catch up to A in 5 hrs
