solve for u 3u  16=5 (u  6)

(1) Multiply out the parentheses.
3u  16 = 5u  30
(2) Combine "u" terms on one side and constants on the other
(3) There should be a "2 u" on one side of the equation you end up with in (2).
(4) Divide both sides of your equation by 2
