a magnet would pull the iron out of the sand and salt. Can you add water? If so you could add the sand and salt together with water. the salt would dissolve in water. You could use the filter to take the sand out of the saltwater/sand mix and then get the salt back by using the bunsen burner to heat up the leftover saltwater mix and evaporate the water
