You can either underline or use italics, but not both.

I prefer to use italics when I'm typing.

Thank you!

You're welcome.

"Individual works of art like paintings and sculptures are underlined or italicized"

* Michelangelo's David
* Mona Lisa
* The Last Supper
* The Pieta
A photograph, which is much smaller than a work of art, is placed in quotation marks!

When it comes to writing the title of a painting, it is generally recommended to italicize the title. Italicizing is a common practice in writing to indicate that the title of a work of art is different from the surrounding text. Underlining can also be used, but it is less common nowadays.

To italicize the title, you can follow these steps:

1. If you are writing by hand, underline the title instead of italicizing it.
2. If you are typing the title, use italics. To do this:
- In most word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word), select the title and look for the "Italic" button on the toolbar. Click on it to apply italics.
- If you are writing within a plain text editor or on a platform that doesn't support formatting, you can replace italics with surrounding asterisks or underscores. For example, instead of "The Starry Night," you can write "*The Starry Night*" or "_The Starry Night_".

Remember, consistency is important, so make sure to apply the same formatting across all your titles in a piece of writing.
