In ( ) are my verb tense. Would you please tell me if they are correct?

I need (Present Tense) to participate in a financial program to help me with successful financial planning.

In my online college course we did learn( Past Progressive Tense) about successful financial planning.

You ask if "they" are correct. Yes on the Present Tense but any progressive tense should have "ing" or a gerund.
Present Progressive = I am participating
Past Prgressive = I was participating
