Homework Help: english

For english i need to write a paper of the the slang words used during the civil war. I already have many examples but i cant seem to find history or facts about it.

am information that you know would be helpful like origin, history,who came up with the words etc.

thats a little helpful but im kinda looking more for why the slang was used. was it easier for them?faster? and how did it all start up? did the soldiers just start using the words and everyone learned them?
