How do you calculate a patient's fluid needs?

The patient is male, his current weight is 229#. His usual weight is 240#. His ideal weight is 172 #. Kcals needed per day are 3121.

I also know that there are 30mL/1kg, but I'm really not sure how this information relates.

I don't know where to begin...PLEASE HELP!

229 pounds is 104 kg. Multiply that by 30 ml/kg for the fluid needs in ml.

I get about 3.1 liters per day. Seems about right. It does not all have to be glasses of water. There is a high water content in many foods.

The ideal weight and usual weight are not needed.
