x-sqrt(x)-2 = 0

how would i start this problem?

first, transpose all terms with squareroot on one side of the equation, in this case, on the right side:

x - 2 = sqrt(x)
then square both sides:
x^2 - 4x + 4 = x
x^2 - 5x + 4 = 0
(x-4)(x-1)=0
x = 4 and x = 1

*remember that you must check if these values satisfy the given equation,, notice that if x = 1 is extraneous,,
thus x is only equal to 4.

so there,, :)
