where there's a wall

there's a way
around, over, or through
there's a gate
maybe a ladder
a door
a sentinel who
sometimes sleeps
there are secret passwords
you can overhear
there are methods of torture
for extracting clues
to maps of underground passageways
there are zepplins
helicopters, rockets, bombs
bettering rams
armies with trumpets
whose all at once blast
shatters the foundations

where there's a wall
there are words
to whisper by a loose brick
wailing prayers to utter
special codes to tap
birds to carry messages
taped to their feet
there are letters to be written
novels even

on this side of the wall
I am standing staring at the top
lost in the clouds
I hear every sound you make
but cannot see you

I incline in the wrong direction
a voice cries faint as in a dream
from the belly
of the wall

Can somebody explain what this poem is telling us?

I think it is telling us that anything is possible during hard times.. :S

That's "battering ram."

Or there is a solution to every problem.

Sra

"battering ram"-- means that in every problem, there is a solution?

Battering ram means that you may have to be strong and use force to help solve the problem. But it's only one possible way to solve a specific problem.

If possible may i get an explanation of what it means?

on this side of the wall
I am standing staring at the top
lost in the clouds
I hear every sound you make
but cannot see you

To me this mens that the situation looks impossible -- the top of the wall is in the clouds. He senses the problem but cannot meet it face to face.

In this stanza:

where there's a wall
there are words
to whisper by a loose brick
wailing prayers to utter
special codes to tap
birds to carry messages
taped to their feet
there are letters to be written
novels even

Is it talking about God?

While interpreting poetry can be subjective, it seems that this poem is metaphorically exploring the theme of barriers and the various ways in which people overcome them. The wall mentioned in the poem represents obstacles or challenges that individuals face in life. The poet suggests that where there's a wall, there's always a way to navigate through, over, or around it.

The poem mentions different strategies: gates, ladders, doors, and even a sentinel who occasionally sleeps. These represent different paths or opportunities that one can take to overcome the wall. The references to secret passwords, torture for clues, and maps of underground passageways suggest that there may be hidden or unconventional methods necessary to overcome obstacles.

The poem also portrays a sense of resilience and determination. The mention of zeppelins, helicopters, rockets, and bombs implies the use of more powerful measures to break down the wall. Additionally, the reference to armies with trumpets implies a collective effort or a united front.

On the other side of the wall, the speaker expresses a sense of longing and separation. They can hear the sounds made by others, but they cannot see them. This could metaphorically represent the isolation and disconnection that can result from barriers or challenges in life.

Overall, the poem suggests that despite the presence of walls or obstacles, there are always ways to overcome them. It conveys a sense of hope and possibility, urging individuals to find creative and resourceful means to surpass the challenges they face.
