(5x-1)/(x-1)

My textbook says it can't be simplified any further. But can't it be simplified to 5?

don't tell me you "cancelled" the -1 and then the x .

if you had 5(x-1)/(x-1) then the answer would be 5, but the way it reads, nothing can be done with it.
