one side of a right triangle is 8 cm.the hypotenuse is 3 cm.more than twice of the other side.what is the measure of the other side?illustrate using the pythagorian theorem

Let the "other side" length be x

The Pythagorean theorem can be written in this case
64 + x^2 = (2x +3)^2 = 4x^2 +12x + 9

Combine terms.
3x^2 +12x -55 = 0
Solve for the positive root, x
x = (1/6)[-12 + sqrt(144 + 660)]
= ____ (not an integer)
