two planes take off from an airport at the same time and head in opposite directions at 260 mph and 275 mph respectively. in how many hours will they be 1605 miles apart?

i posted a different question. why did they get deleted?

Make a drawing for this one. It's a very easy way to do it. Draw a dot where they both take off and then label distances apart..and keep adding the distance until you get to 1605.

FIND THE RATIO B/T

A : B
260:275
52:55 (divided both Numbers by 5)
52+55=107

Plane A
52/107*1605=780
Plane B
55/107*1605=825

check: Plane A + Plane B
=780 + 825
= 1605 Which is miles

To find out how many hours it will take for the two planes to be 1605 miles apart, you can use the formula:

Distance = Speed x Time

Let's assume the time it takes for the planes to be 1605 miles apart is "t" hours.

The distance covered by the first plane is 260 mph x t hours, and the distance covered by the second plane is 275 mph x t hours. Since they are travelling in opposite directions, their distances add up to 1605 miles:

260 mph x t + 275 mph x t = 1605 miles

Combine like terms:

(260 mph + 275 mph) x t = 1605 miles

Simplify:

535 mph x t = 1605 miles

Now, solve for "t" by dividing both sides of the equation by 535 mph:

t = 1605 miles / 535 mph

Performing the calculation:

t = 3 hours

Therefore, it will take 3 hours for the planes to be 1605 miles apart.
