2)He agrees to the loan on condition (OR on the condition??) that if he fails to pay within thirty days, he will take a pound of his flesh.
3)At Shakespeare’s time there was a law in Venice ( a law was in use), which allowed (granted) thirty days to repay a debt. If the debt wasn’t paid (failed to be paid) by the deadline, the debtor could be sold into slavery.
4)The one who tries to kill a Venetian (attempts the life of a Venetian) can be executed.
5)He should give half of his money to Antonio and the other half to the state of Venice. His daughter Jessica should inherit the rest of his wealth (at his death?).
