do I add and then divide to get the mean number 278+153+215+198=844/4=211

is the mean number is 211?

The answer is 211.

But, you put the numbers in order from least to greatest 1st always, then add them all and devide by the number of numbers ...... 153+198+215+278= 844/4= 211
