Discuss the prevalence and effects of Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) in South Africa with reference to either Erikson’s theory of socio-emotional development or Piaget’s theory of cognitive development. Identify at least one risk to normal socio-emotional or cognitive development.

Overview of theory, identifying the stages, characteristics and the tasks of the stages
Overview of FAS, including a definition and occurrence in S.A as well as the impact of FAS on physical development
Identify and discuss the effects of FAS relating it to the theory that you choose
Critical evaluation of the theory in relation to FAS
