I need to write the quadratic function in vertex form then identify the vertex.
y=x^28x+10

This is called completing the squares:
y=x²8x+10
y=(x4)²16 + 10
y=(x4)²  6
The vertex is thus at (4,6).
You can also get the vertex directly from:
(b/2a, Δ/4a)
=((8)/2, ((8)²4*1*10)/4a)
=(4, 6)
