That depends on what kind of exams you are talking about.
An it depends upon the college or university. I took 3 exams in one day.

Very likely. However, with finals, if 3 exams are scheduled in one day, some institutions allow you to take one (makeup) at another time.
When I was a student, I tried not to schedule classes back-to-back. That way, if two classes scheduled exams on the same day, I would at least have a break between exams.
Also, if there are several sections of a class, the instructor might let you take the exam with another section to avoid more than one exam a day. Of course, you have to ask in advance.
