1. I would hesitate to use another liquid since research has been done with nitrobenzene; however, benzene, might work as well.
2. No, since both AgBr and AgI are much more insoluble than AgCl. The Volhard procedure works well, also, if the AgCl ppt is filtered before the final titration with KSCN. The addition of nitrobenzene uses less time since filtration is not necessary.
