Homework Help: Algebra 1

Posted by Sam R. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:07am.

I'm completeing parts of my homework, and need help checking some of the problems. Could someone tell me if this is right? If it's not could you show me how to work it correctly? I'm not looking for someone to do my work, just show me how. There are no shortage of questions like this one on my exams! Thank you in advance.

Question:

a. Job opportunities for physician’s assistants are expected to increase from 58,000 in 2000 to 89,000 in 2010. What is the percent of increase?

My Answer :

I subtracted 58,000 from 89,000 and got 31000.

Then I divided 31,000 by 89,000 and got a large decimal number. I took the first four digits from that number and got .5344

I moved the decimal point over twice and got the answer 53.44% increase in jobs.
